Tribun VIP at Drift Speed Fest Purwokerto collapses, 75 hurt
Banyumas has suspended similar events pending police and IMI findings, while investigators question the EO, vendor and committee.
The Tribun VIP at Drift Speed Fest at GOR Satria in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, collapsed on Sunday afternoon and injured 75 spectators. The injured, with minor and serious wounds, were treated at RST Wijayakusuma, RS Elisabeth, RS Orthopaedi, RSUD Prof Margono Soekarjo and RS Ananda. The incident happened minutes after the event was opened by Banyumas Regent Sadewo Tri Lastiono, when committee members handed out merchandise that prompted spectators to move toward the front of the stands. Several witnesses said the stands had been shaking since the opening ceremony. Polresta Banyumas is now investigating the cause of the collapse by questioning the organizer, vendor, committee and Ikatan Motor Indonesia. The Banyumas regency administration has also temporarily halted similar events until police and IMI make a decision.
