Toyota Camry burns on MBZ Toll Road toward Cikampek, passengers safe
Police suspect an electrical short after the driver was warned of smoke from beneath the car, which later burned out.
A Toyota Camry burned on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Elevated Toll Road toward Cikampek on Friday afternoon. The driver, identified as YS (75), and the passenger managed to get out before the fire spread, leaving no fatalities. Head of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll PJR post, Kompol Sandy Titah Nugraha, said the car was traveling from Jakarta to Cikampek in lane 1 when another motorist in lane 2 alerted the driver to smoke coming from the underside of the vehicle. After the car was moved to the shoulder, flames broke out and destroyed the body of the vehicle. Police suspect the cause was a short circuit or electrical fault. The driver's SIM and STNK were also burned. PJR officers, toll operator personnel and firefighters then handled extinguishing the fire, moving the vehicle and managing traffic at the scene.
