Tourist jailed in Singapore over S$200,000 Chinatown diamond swap

A Singapore court jailed an Indian tourist for two years, two months and two weeks over the theft of a nearly S$200,000 diamond from a Chinatown jewelry store. Prosecutors said Mangroliya Manojkumar Kurjibhai, 41, and Serasiya Milan Ramnikbhai, 30, flew to Singapore on June 19 after commissioning a counterfeit diamond in Surat, India, to match the targeted stone's specifications and serial number. At Dianoche on Kreta Ayer Road, Mangroliya distracted a sales manager while Serasiya swapped the real 4.95-carat diamond with the fake and hid the genuine gem. Police arrested the pair at Changi Airport that night as they tried to leave for India. Serasiya's case is still pending.
