Tito lays cornerstone for Sekolah Rakyat in Biak Numfor
In Papua, only three areas have responded early to the program: Jayapura, Sarmi and Biak.
Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian laid the cornerstone for construction of a Sekolah Rakyat in Biak Numfor regency, Papua, on Saturday (1/8). The program, under the Ministry of Social Affairs, targets neglected children from low-income families, especially deciles 1 and 2, with a boarding-school model and state-funded education. Tito said only a few areas in Papua were ready to support land provision; the early responders were Jayapura, Sarmi and Biak. He said President Prabowo Subianto had inaugurated 166 Sekolah Rakyat simultaneously from Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, in January 2026. Construction was then continued by the Ministry of Public Works in various regions using the same building prototype.
