Tito launches renovation of 22,379 BSPS homes in Tanah Papua
Of the total, 4,500 units are in Papua Province, where the share of substandard housing in Papua Raya is about 30 percent.
Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian inspected implementation of the Bantuan Stimulan Perumahan Swadaya program in Kampung Mosso, Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, on Sunday (21/6), and launched renovation work on 22,379 homes across Tanah Papua. Of that total, 4,500 units are in Papua Province. Tito said the aid targets low-income residents living in severely damaged homes, including those with rotting walls, weak foundations, and leaking roofs. He said the high number of uninhabitable homes in Papua Raya, about one in three homes or 30 percent, cannot be handled through APBD alone because local budgets are already absorbed by education, health, roads, and personnel spending. For that reason, the central government, through the Ministry of Housing and Settlements, is being urged to speed up the response.
