Thunderstorm cancels Spain's training before 2026 World Cup final

Argentina still trained after a 45-minute delay, while New York also faced flood warnings and worsening air quality.

Spain's preparations for the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina were disrupted after their final training session in New Jersey was canceled because of a thunderstorm, Saturday (18/7) local time. Luis de la Fuente's team was originally scheduled to train at Melanie Lane Field, but the session was delayed and then canceled for safety reasons. The Spanish Football Federation said the decision followed safety protocols in force in the United States, while the players only completed an indoor warmup. At the same time, Argentina still managed to train in Morristown after a 45-minute delay. Ahead of the final at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, local authorities also issued flood warnings and health advisories because of smoke from Canadian wildfires.
