Thousands of supporters gathered at Plaza de Colón in central Madrid late Sunday to celebrate Spain’s World Cup victory over Argentina. The match went to extra time, with Ferran Torres scoring the winner in the 106th minute, capping Spain’s second men’s World Cup title and its first since 2010. In New Jersey, captain Rodri lifted the trophy after the final whistle and also collected the tournament’s best player award. Unai Simón took the Golden Glove and Pau Cubarsí was named best young player. The scenes in Madrid stretched into the night as fans sang, cheered and counted down the final seconds before the celebrations erupted.
