Thailand's Princess Bajrakitiyabha dies at 47 after years in coma
What's new: The king's eldest daughter had been hospitalized since collapsing in December 2022 from a heart condition and infections.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn, died at 47 after nearly four years in a coma, the royal palace said Friday. She had been hospitalized since December 2022, when she collapsed because of a heart condition and other infections. The palace said her condition worsened on May 21 after multiple infections affected several organs and doctors could not stabilize her irregular heart rate. Educated in Britain, the United States and Thailand, Bajrakitiyabha held roles with the United Nations and pushed for better treatment of women in prisons. Known in Thailand as Princess Bha, she was considered close to the king and was given a senior post in his bodyguard command before her hospitalization.
