Teen shot, World Cup bus burned in chaotic Knicks celebrations

What's new: Police took three persons of interest into custody after crowds damaged multiple buses and streets around Times Square and MSG.

A 17-year-old was shot in the foot and a city-hired shuttle bus carrying World Cup fans was set on fire as New York Knicks championship celebrations spilled into disorder across Midtown Manhattan early June 14. After the Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 for their first NBA title since 1973, thousands of fans flooded streets near Times Square and Madison Square Garden. Reuters reported crowds swarmed a convoy of about 15 buses after a Brazil-Morocco match, climbed onto roofs, entered vehicles and badly damaged at least three more buses. Police in riot gear and on horseback later pushed back crowds, while an officer told Reuters three persons of interest were in custody in the shooting.
