Taylor Farms pulls Mexico iceberg lettuce as US parasite cases top 5,000

What's new: Michigan alone reported 5,002 cyclosporiasis cases, while the FDA traced Taco Bell-linked lettuce to a single Mexican supplier.

Taylor Farms is removing all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico after US regulators linked shredded lettuce served at Taco Bell to a sprawling cyclosporiasis outbreak. The California-based supplier said it acted after receiving information from the Food and Drug Administration on July 16. Reuters reported Taylor Farms also told clients including Yum Brands and Sysco to pull shredded lettuce from distribution. Michigan health officials reported 5,002 cases as of July 17, up 690 from a day earlier. The FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating illnesses in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. The FDA reported no deaths. Taylor Farms said its branded salads and kits were not tied to the outbreak.
