Tax chief denies Babinsa, Bhabinkamtibmas are tax collectors

DJP says the rule dates to 2020 and now relies on Coretax, CRM and geotagging to monitor compliance.

Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto denied that Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas were involved as tax auditors or collectors. He said the regional network is used only for coordination and, when needed, gathering information for taxpayer compliance monitoring. According to Bimo, the scheme is not a new policy because it has been in place since 2020, while Circular Letter SE-8/PJ/2026 only refines its implementation procedures. DJP said its main oversight tools now are technology-based, including Coretax, compliance risk management (CRM), and geotagging monitoring. Separately, Kompolnas said involving Bhabinkamtibmas in tax matters was inappropriate because their role is to provide services and maintain public order, not to push tax compliance.
