Taman Polkam Merdeka 81 draws crowds in Jakarta ahead of RI Day

Taman Polkam Merdeka 81 on the sidewalk in front of the Kemenko Polkam office on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jakarta, drew crowds on Sunday morning ahead of the 81st anniversary of RI independence. Landscaping of the pedestrian area began on 14 August 2026 at the direction of Menko Polkam Djamari Chaniago to enliven the independence commemoration. Honi Havana, head of the Public Relations, Data and Information Bureau at Kemenko Polkam, said the garden was designed as a public space that creates a greener atmosphere for pedestrians. The garden displays flowers, fruits, vegetables and Indonesian crops, which are said to represent natural wealth, fertility and diversity. Several visitors who came after the car-free day stopped to look at the garden and take selfies.
