Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Akesson opened the final two weeks of Sweden’s election campaign by urging supporters to keep the right in power in the Sept. 13 parliamentary vote. Speaking in his hometown of Solvesborg on Aug. 29, Akesson argued his party has driven government policy on immigration and criminal justice and needs four more years to go further. Polls cited by Bloomberg show the opposition, led by the Social Democrats, ahead of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s center-right bloc by about 6 points. Kristersson has pledged Sweden Democrats a place in government if his side wins, and Akesson has said he could seek the justice minister post.
