Suspended Pati Regent Sudewo gets 8.5-year prison sentence

He must also pay a Rp300 million fine and Rp3.5 billion in restitution in the DJKA bribery and village official extortion case.

The Semarang Corruption Court sentenced suspended Pati Regent Sudewo to 8 years and 6 months in prison in a corruption case tied to a Directorate General of Railways project and extortion in village official appointments on Wednesday (21/10). The panel of judges, led by Edwin Pudyono, also ordered Sudewo to pay a Rp300 million fine, with an additional 100 days in jail if he defaults, and Rp3.5 billion in restitution. In the DJKA case, the judges found Sudewo accepted Rp1.3 billion in bribes and gratuities in cash and goods worth Rp2.1 billion in total. In the village official case, he was found to have abused his authority to enrich himself and three other defendants. The judges rejected a request to bar him from running for public office. After the ruling, Sudewo said he would consider his options.
