Supreme Court blocks Trump prison limits on trans medical care
What's new: The order keeps hormone treatment in place for about 600 federal inmates while the lawsuit moves forward.
The Supreme Court refused Wednesday to let the Trump administration immediately enforce new restrictions on medical care for transgender federal inmates, leaving a lower-court block in place. The policy, adopted after an executive order from President Donald Trump, would stop surgeries, taper hormone treatment and end social accommodations such as makeup and wigs, while continuing mental health care. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth had ordered treatment to continue, citing the risks of untreated gender dysphoria, including depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented from the brief order.
