Sumut Bans ASN From Using Vape, Kapolri Cites Narcotics Risk

The ban applies to ASN, PPPK and BUMD employees, while the public still faces only an advisory.

The North Sumatra provincial government has banned civil servants from using vape or e-cigarettes, and the policy was backed by Police Chief Gen. Suyudi Ario Seto in Medan on Friday. North Sumatra Governor Bobby Afif Nasution imposed the ban on ASN, including PPPK and BUMD employees, while for the general public it remains an advisory. Suyudi said vape can be vulnerable to abuse as a vehicle for narcotics because refill liquid is hard to distinguish at a glance from ordinary substances. He said illegal drugs can be disguised in flavored liquid, including extracted cannabis. On the same occasion, Suyudi also said Polri would continue cracking down on narcotics syndicates targeting young people.
