Sumatera Selatan Government Holds Istisqa Prayer in Palembang
The prayer came as BMKG recorded several areas in Sumatera Selatan had extremely long dry spells without rain.
The Sumatera Selatan provincial government held an istisqa prayer in the courtyard of Griya Agung in Palembang on Tuesday (25/8), amid haze from forest and land fires that blanketed the city. Residents joined the prayer seeking rain as a spiritual effort while air quality deteriorated during the dry season. ANTARA reported that rain is expected to reduce the concentration of smoke and moisten land that is prone to burning. According to BMKG records, a number of areas in Sumatera Selatan have also experienced days without rain in the very long category. The event took place as karhutla increased in several areas, while the government continued response efforts and urged the public to protect their health.
