Stephen Chow’s ‘Kung Fu Soccer’ lands in Singapore on Aug. 6
What’s new: The film is Chow’s first directing effort since 2019 and follows a women’s team in an “ultimate tournament.”
Stephen Chow will return to theaters in Singapore on Aug. 6 with “Kung Fu Soccer,” a comedy billed as a spiritual follow-up to his 2001 hit “Shaolin Soccer.” Channel News Asia reported that a 21-second trailer released Monday shows a women’s soccer team watching a ball fly past an airplane before it crashes back to Earth with explosive force, echoing Chow’s trademark absurdist style. The cast includes Carina Lau, Zhang Xiaofei, Dilraba Dilmurat, Lay Zhang of Exo and Japanese actor Takeru Satoh. The movie marks Chow’s first film in the director’s chair since 2019’s “The New King of Comedy.”
