Spain seeks EU help as violence flares in migrant-hit Ceuta

Spain appealed for calm and sought European Union support after violence escalated in Ceuta, where thousands of Moroccan migrants remain a month after a mass crossing from Morocco. In recent days, locals blocked Red Cross aid, migrant camps on Trampolín beach were set on fire, and protesters clashed with police. Authorities also arrested migrants accused of throwing stones at soldiers and a military vehicle in separate incidents. EU migration commissioner Magnus Brunner said Spain had asked for help from Frontex, Europol and the EU Agency for Asylum. Madrid is also trying to reduce the number of people still in Ceuta without violating EU and international asylum rules.
