Spain seeks EU help after Ceuta migrant unrest turns violent

Spain moved to tighten control of the migrant crisis in Ceuta after unrest escalated in the North African enclave and local anger spilled into attacks on camps and aid workers. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska requested European Union help from Frontex to process migrants and asked for 10 more officers to assist screening. Authorities said at least 72,000 people crossed from Morocco into Ceuta on July 30 and 31, with most quickly returned but several thousand still in the city. Residents have protested growing pressure on public services, while migrants have slept on beaches and streets. Tensions worsened after tents on Trampolín beach were burned and 12 migrants were arrested after an army vehicle was stoned.
