South Sumatra to test 1.5 tons of dry ice in Palembang

The aerial drop on Oct. 15 aims to lift Palembang visibility from about 1,000 meters to 5,000 meters.

The government is preparing a test drop of 1.5 tons of dry ice over Palembang on Thursday, Oct. 15, to help reduce haze from forest and land fires in South Sumatera. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Dudung Abdurachman inspected preparations at Lanud Sri Mulyono Herlambang with South Sumatera Governor Herman Deru. The solid carbon dioxide material will be dispersed from an aircraft, while another source said the flight will depart from Lampung. The move is described as a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's instruction while officials wait for results on its effectiveness. If successful, the method could be used in other areas, including Central Kalimantan, alongside ongoing efforts to extinguish karhutla and weather modification operations.
