South Korea probes AI-linked bank hacks after 25,000 data leak

What's new: CrowdStrike tied the campaign to a suspect in Guangdong and said the intruder used ARTEX and Anthropic's Claude.

South Korean authorities are investigating whether AI agents were used in a string of cyberattacks on banks after customer data was exposed at several lenders. President Lee Jae Myung ordered officials to determine what happened and limit the damage, while police opened a probe into attacks on financial companies including Hana Bank, KB Kookmin Bank and Shinhan Bank. Shinhan said about 25,000 customers' personal credit information was leaked. Hana said 89 customers were affected, and Kookmin said 99 customers and 20 current or former employees were hit. CrowdStrike said a 26-year-old suspect in Guangdong may have used the Chinese-developed ARTEX tool with Anthropic's Claude in the campaign.
