South Jakarta relocates 216 vendors to reorganize Setu Babakan
Only 57 vendors passed curation to sell Betawi food, while the rest were directed to Lokbin Pasar Minggu, Lenteng Agung and Bintaro.
The South Jakarta city administration has relocated 216 vendors in the Perkampungan Budaya Betawi Setu Babakan area in Jagakarsa as part of efforts to reorganize the cultural tourism site. The move is intended to restore Setu Babakan’s function as a center for preserving Betawi culture and as a tourism and culinary destination. The administration prepared 63 holding spaces, but only 57 vendors have so far passed curation to sell Betawi specialty foods. Vendors who did not pass are being directed to register at other fostered locations, including Lokbin Pasar Minggu, Teras Lenteng Agung and Pasar Bintaro. Data from Satpol PP Jakarta Selatan on Oct. 5 recorded 224 vendors, consisting of 130 on the east side and 94 on the west side, while five vendors were still in the process of dismantling kiosks on Oct. 14.
