South Africa submits new evidence, accuses Israel of violating ICJ order
The filing alleges Israel ignored three interim ICJ orders, including a halt to military operations in Rafah.
South Africa filed a new evidence submission with the International Court of Justice and accused Israel of failing to comply with three binding interim orders in the Gaza case. The document submitted this week says the ICJ orders of Jan. 26, March 28 and May 24, 2024 have not been carried out, including the duty to prevent acts that could fall under genocide and to halt military operations in Rafah. In the filing, Pretoria also wrote that by August at least 73,407 Palestinians had been killed and 174,335 others wounded. South Africa warned that Palestinians' rights in the Gaza Strip could disappear before the ICJ issues a final ruling. The case stemmed from South Africa's Dec. 29, 2023 lawsuit over alleged violations of the 1948 Genocide Convention.
