Singapore warns of heavy Woodlands, Tuas traffic Nov. 6-9

What's new: Border checks have been tighter since Feb. 28, and past peak-hour car waits stretched to three hours.

Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority warned travelers to expect heavy traffic and longer waits at the Woodlands and Tuas land checkpoints during the Deepavali long weekend from Nov. 6 to Nov. 9. The agency urged people heading to Malaysia to travel in off-peak periods, check checkpoint traffic before leaving and use QR codes in the MyICA app to speed immigration clearance. ICA said security screening has remained tighter since Feb. 28 because of the global security environment and developments in the Middle East. During the September school holidays, more than 6.1 million people crossed the two checkpoints, including a record more than 599,000 on Sept. 4, while some drivers faced waits of up to three hours.
