Singapore taps expert panel to deepen probes into haze-linked firms
What's new: Companies flagged by Singapore will have to hire panel professionals for cross-border audits and supply-chain inquiries.
Singapore will set up a specialist panel of law, audit and investigative firms to help trace companies tied to fires in Indonesia that sent haze across the city-state. The Ministry of Law said the panel will support cross-border inquiries, map corporate relationships and examine supply chains spanning multiple jurisdictions. Davinder Singh Chambers has been appointed to advise the government and coordinate the work. The move follows preventive notices issued by the National Environment Agency to 10 companies linked to fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan. Those companies were ordered to stop burning, fight fires on their land and submit plans to prevent recurrences. Singapore has struggled to enforce its transboundary haze law because gathering evidence overseas is difficult.
