Singapore readies aid for Indonesia as haze drives PSI to 192

What's next: Singapore warned pollution could top 200, triggering N95 mask distribution and haze shelters for residents.

Singapore moved to support Indonesia’s firefighting effort as transboundary haze pushed air quality into the unhealthy range across the city-state. Sustainability and Environment Minister Grace Fu said she had contacted Indonesian Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat and backed wider regional cooperation as dry El Nino conditions made forest fires harder to contain. By 5 p.m. Friday, Singapore’s 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index reached 192 in the central region, the highest reading this haze season. Authorities said N95 masks would be distributed if the PSI enters the very unhealthy range above 200, while schools, workplaces and health institutions have sector-specific contingency plans.
