Singapore presses ahead with Maju Forest, Gillman housing plans

Singapore will move ahead with housing development at Maju Forest near Sunset Way and at Gillman Barracks, even as ministers leave room to adjust how the projects are built. In Parliament on Aug. 4, Minister of State for National Development Alvin Tan said both sites are needed to meet housing demand over the next decade, though the plans have not been finalized and could still be revised to conserve more greenery and heritage after public feedback is reviewed. On Aug. 7, Sustainability and the Environment Minister Grace Fu said her ministry does not control land-use planning, which falls to the Ministry of National Development. The projects have sparked public opposition, with petitions to protect the sites drawing more than 57,000 signatures.
