Singapore plans Orchid Park in Orchard revamp near Istana

Singapore outlined updated plans to remake the Dhoby Ghaut section of Orchard Road around a much larger Istana Park, including a new Orchid Park, a pedestrianized 500-meter stretch of Orchard Road and a garden honoring Singapore women. The National Parks Board said the expanded park would merge Istana Park, Dhoby Ghaut Green and Penang Road Open Space, creating a site more than three times the size of the current 1.3-hectare park. Plans also include a possible ceremonial driveway to the Istana gate, family-friendly play areas, galleries and an elevated link bridge to Fort Canning Park. Minister of State for National Development Alvin Tan said more detailed designs will be refined over the coming year.
