Singapore opens first wheelchair-accessible slide at Tampines park
What's new: The 3,800-square-meter playground adds quiet huts, a sensory garden and barrier-free equipment for all ages.
Singapore opened a new inclusive playground at Sun Plaza Park in Tampines on June 17, featuring the country’s first slide designed for wheelchair users. Built by the National Parks Board with California-based Magical Bridge Foundation, the 3,800-square-meter site includes barrier-free routes, wheelchair-accessible swings and spinners, quiet corners and hideaway huts for children who need a calmer space. A sensory garden with raised planters and scented plants was also added. The project was funded by a S$3.9 million donation to the Garden City Fund from Magical Bridge Foundation board members Amanda and Vince Steckler.
