Singapore man, 66, jailed nearly 13 years for abusing boy, 12

What's new: The sentence included four months in lieu of caning, with the judge citing repeated abuse over about three years.

A Singapore court sentenced Abdul Rahim Sa’ad, 66, to 12 years and 11 months in jail after he admitted sexually abusing a boy from age 12 in exchange for cash and cigarettes. Rahim pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault by penetration, while 14 other charges involving the same victim were taken into consideration. The abuse began in 2020 after Rahim met the boy near his sister’s flat and escalated from taking explicit photographs to repeated sexual acts, including in a handicapped toilet at a community center. He was arrested on Jan. 4, 2024, after his niece filed a police report. Because he is over 50, he could not be caned, so the court added four months of jail instead.
