Singapore LTA faulted officers’ handling of cyclist stopped on bridge

Singapore's Land Transport Authority said its enforcement officers should have handled an encounter with an elderly cyclist more sensitively after a video showed her kneeling before them on an overhead bridge. The incident happened on Aug. 27 near Block 95 Aljunied Crescent. LTA said the woman had been stopped for cycling on the bridge instead of dismounting and pushing her bicycle, which is an offense because the structures are meant mainly for pedestrians and have limited space. The agency said the officers were enforcing safety rules fairly but acknowledged the woman was distressed. It added that the officers had reflected on the episode and that training would be strengthened to help staff manage such situations with greater empathy.
