Singapore logged 441 suicides in 2024; deaths rose 50% for ages 30-39

What's new: Suicide was the second-leading cause of death for Singapore adults 30 to 39, while 2025 provisional deaths stood at 256.

Singapore recorded 441 suicides in 2024 after finalized data sharply revised up the earlier provisional count of 314, the Samaritans of Singapore said. The increase was concentrated among adults ages 30 to 39, where deaths climbed to 99 from 66 a year earlier, making suicide the second-leading cause of death in that age group. Suicide remained the leading cause of death among people ages 10 to 29 for a seventh straight year. Men accounted for 290 of the 441 deaths, or 65.8%, and the gap was widest among people 60 and older, where male deaths were about three times female deaths. SOS said family, work and social isolation were common stressors for adults in their 30s.
