Singapore gives 15,200 hawker stalls up to S$1,200 in rent relief

What's new: The aid runs from September to February 2027 as food inflation outpaced core inflation in June.

Singapore will give rent support to about 15,200 hawker and market stalls as rising food, energy and packaging costs squeeze operators. Cooked-food stalls will receive S$1,200 each and market stalls S$600 each, paid over six months from September through February 2027. The relief covers stalls in government-run hawker centers and markets, as well as sites run by operators appointed by the National Environment Agency. Officials said the higher payout for cooked-food stalls reflects added pressure from food-preparation energy costs. The measure is part of a wider S$900 million support package tied to cost pressures linked to the Middle East crisis. Singapore's food inflation was 2.1% in June, above core inflation of 1.6%.
