Singapore, Germany deepen AI and cyber ties in 2027-28 plan

What's new: The roadmap also expands work on defense, green energy and undersea infrastructure protection, with Germany joining the GUIDE initiative.

Singapore and Germany agreed on a refreshed joint work plan for 2027 and 2028 that puts industrial AI and digital cooperation at the center of wider bilateral ties. The plan followed a meeting in Singapore between Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and updates an earlier roadmap under the countries’ 2024 strategic partnership. Beyond AI, the framework covers research, semiconductors, quantum and space technology, energy transition, trade, and defense cooperation. Merz also said Germany is joining the GUIDE initiative, a Singapore-launched framework to protect critical undersea infrastructure. Bilateral trade topped $13 billion in 2024, and both leaders also highlighted support for a rules-based international order and cooperation on cyber resilience.
