Singapore gelato shop Tom’s Palette to close after 21 years

What’s next: Its Bugis and Kovan outlets are set to shut by late October as the company seeks a buyer to carry on the brand.

Tom’s Palette, a Singapore gelato brand known for unusual flavors, will close its Bugis and Kovan outlets after 21 years, with shutdowns planned for mid- to late October. General manager Faith Yap said the dessert business could not generate enough sales to sustain operations, even after an improvement since concerns were raised in April. The company said it is open to talks with buyers interested in continuing the business. Before closing, Tom’s Palette plans to bring back popular flavors through an Encore Collection, including Mao Shan Wang, Soybean You Tiao and Black Sesame Brittle. Founded in 2005, the shop built a following with flavors such as nasi lemak, salted egg yolk and bitter gourd.
