Singapore’s High Court set a five-year notional prison term for Ridawi Morsudin, a 90-year-old man found unfit to stand trial after killing his wife in their Bukit Panjang flat in June 2024. Justice Hoo Sheau Peng said medical reports showed Ridawi had severe cognitive impairment, mixed dementia and possible delirium at the time, and was unlikely ever to regain fitness to plead or mount a defense. She rejected the defense request for two to three years, ruling that some public-protection element remained because he had attacked his 74-year-old wife, Aminah Abdul, in a forceful and brutal way. Ridawi will stay at Changi Prison Complex Medical Centre until the minister decides on confinement or conditional release.
