Singapore completes Circle Line as 3 stations open after 9 years

Why it matters: The final link cuts some trips by about 10 minutes and closes a 33-station loop more than 30 years in the making.

Singapore opened three new Circle Line stations on July 12, completing the orbital MRT route with the launch of Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road. The stations form the final Stage 6 segment between HarbourFront and Marina Bay after about nine years of construction. With the extension in service, the Circle Line now spans 33 stations, including 12 interchanges. The Land Transport Authority said more than 10,000 commuters can expect shorter journeys, with some trips cut by about 10 minutes. The added stretch is meant to improve direct travel between the west, the city center and the east, while serving the Greater Southern Waterfront, Shenton Way and nearby residential areas.
