Singapore Category A car COE jumps to record S$139,001

Why it matters: The price spike adds to car-buying costs as regulators weigh changes to COE categories and EV incentives taper in 2027.

Singapore's Certificate of Entitlement premium for Category A cars rose to a record S$139,001 in the latest bidding exercise on Nov. 4, up 5.3% from S$132,004. Category B premiums edged up to S$132,334, while the open category climbed to S$135,998. Commercial vehicle COEs slipped to S$92,000 and motorcycle premiums fell to S$10,689. The Land Transport Authority linked the elevated prices to strong demand for mass-market electric vehicles that qualify under Category A and to buying interest after an Oct. 24-25 car expo. The result came days after public consultation closed on proposed COE reforms, including merging the two car categories and adding rebates and surcharges tied to a vehicle's open market value.
