Singapore artist’s Mountbatten MRT sidewalk work erased after complaint

What's new: Police found no offense, but the 24-year-old said the partly finished piece was washed away the next day.

A Singapore power-washing artist said his work outside Mountbatten MRT Station was removed a day after a public complaint brought police to the scene. Marcus Pang, 24, said he had spent about five hours on May 31 creating a heart on a concrete path when station staff stopped him and asked whether he had a permit. Pang said the complaint centered on suspected chemicals on a nearby grass patch, though he said he used rainwater and that any smell likely came from his machine’s gasoline. Police took a statement and later let him go after determining no crime had been committed, he said. When he returned the next day, Pang found the work had been completely washed off. He later said he would pause projects in Mountbatten and seek support from local lawmakers for future work.
