Singapore Airlines flight turned back to San Francisco after 9 hours

What's new: The passenger was handed to local authorities, and the delayed Singapore-bound flight left later with a replacement crew.

A Singapore Airlines flight from San Francisco to Singapore returned to San Francisco International Airport nearly nine hours after takeoff after a passenger became unruly and injured himself on board. Flight SQ31 left at 11.51 a.m. local time on Oct. 14 and landed back at 8.41 p.m., after pilots decided to reverse course over the North Pacific. The airline said the passenger was handed over to local authorities after landing. The Airbus A350-900 later departed again at 11.18 p.m. with a new set of crew members. Singapore Airlines apologized to affected passengers and said it was rebooking connecting flights and assisting travelers disrupted by the delay.
