SIA jet aborts Perth landing in strong winds, lands safely on retry

What's new: Flight SQ213 touched down at 12:30 p.m. local time after a go-around, a routine safety maneuver used to reset an approach.

A Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to Perth aborted its first landing attempt after strong winds destabilized the aircraft on approach, then landed safely on a second try. Video shared online showed the jet banking sharply, with one wing appearing to come close to the ground before the pilots climbed away from the runway. The airline said Flight SQ213, an Airbus A350-900, encountered strong winds while approaching Perth International Airport on Oct. 31. It later landed safely at 12:30 p.m. local time and taxied to the gate. The Straits Times, citing Australian Bureau of Meteorology data, reported wind speeds of 32 kph with gusts up to 43 kph at that time.
