Senator Chris Murphy hospitalized at Johns Hopkins after stroke
His staff said Murphy, 53, is conscious, responding well to treatment and expected to make a full recovery.
Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Murphy was hospitalized at Johns Hopkins after suffering a stroke over the weekend. His chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, said Murphy began feeling numbness in his arm while attending his son's hockey game on Saturday afternoon. He was then taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring. According to Herwitt, Murphy is responding well to treatment, is conscious and alert, and the medical team is optimistic he will recover fully. Murphy, 53, represents Connecticut in the Senate and is known as a prominent Democratic figure, including on foreign policy and gun reform. In recent weeks, he also has been active on the campaign trail ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.
