Security doubts dog Trump’s Qatari 747 after NATO trip switch

What's new: Trump flew home from Turkey on an older jet after sending the gifted plane to Britain as US-Iran tensions rose.

Questions swirled around President Donald Trump’s use of a Boeing 747-8 donated by Qatar after he switched to an older Air Force One for part of his travel following the NATO summit. The retrofitted jet flew Trump to Ankara on its first trip outside the United States, but he then sent it ahead to a British airbase and took the older aircraft home from Turkey. The New York Times reported the newer plane lacks some security features carried by the older jets, including anti-missile defenses. The unusual move drew more attention because hostilities with Iran had intensified and reporters on the older plane were told to keep window blinds down, a measure usually associated with war zones. The White House defended the aircraft as secure.
