Sea drone explodes at Romania's Constanta port; no injuries reported

Why it matters: The blast shut down part of a key Black Sea hub used for Ukrainian grain and fuel shipments and widened NATO security fears.

A maritime drone exploded Friday near an oil terminal at Romania's Black Sea port of Constanta after Ukrainian authorities warned that Russian electronic warfare had caused it to drift off course. Romanian officials said the blast caused no injuries, and the area had already been evacuated. More than 1,000 people were moved from nearby beaches and port zones while ships and helicopters searched for other threats. President Nicusor Dan blamed Russia's war in Ukraine for the incident. Constanta, Romania's largest port, has become a vital route for Ukrainian grain exports and fuel imports. The explosion came a week after a Russian drone hit an apartment building in Galati, injuring two people.
