Saudi Arabia intercepts Houthi missile aimed at Mecca, Medina

Debris from the interception fell in Mecca, Jeddah, Taif and Rabigh, while one drone was also destroyed over Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia intercepted a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi group toward Mecca and Medina on Saturday (24/10), according to the Saudi Civil Defense. Debris from the intercepted missile fell in Wadi Al-Mughammas in Mecca, Al-Nuzha in Jeddah, Wadi Jalil in Taif, and the Masturah Center in Rabigh. The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen also said one drone targeting Riyadh was destroyed. The attack drew condemnation from the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who said the targeting of areas near Arafat showed disregard for the sanctity of holy sites and the safety of civilians. The Houthi have previously denied Riyadh's accusations that they launched missiles and drones into Saudi territory. The conflict between the Houthi and Yemen's government, backed by the Saudi coalition, has been ongoing since 2014.
