Russia, Ukraine trade strikes as US-backed talks restart

What's new: Russian strikes cut power to more than 500,000 in Ukraine as Moscow floated November talks in Abu Dhabi.

Russia and Ukraine traded fresh attacks as Washington pushed to restart peace talks, with Russian strikes knocking out electricity to more than 500,000 people in Ukraine, according to Ukraine's Energy Ministry. Kyiv also came under a missile attack that injured six people, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said. In Russia, the Defense Ministry said air defenses destroyed 443 Ukrainian drones overnight. The fighting continued less than a day after Steve Witkoff met Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg. Putin said Moscow was ready to resume US-mediated talks with Kyiv in November, while Volodymyr Zelensky said he would accept a ceasefire if Ukraine received strong security guarantees.
