Russia Prepares Major Strike on Ukraine Energy Infrastructure

The threat follows a munitions depot attack near Kyiv that killed 38 people, Russia's deadliest strike this year.

Russia is preparing a major strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the Russian Ministry of Defense said Sunday, in retaliation for Kyiv's drone attacks on Russian energy and civilian facilities. The threat deepened fears of a new wave of winter attacks on Ukraine's power grid. Days earlier, a Russian strike on a munitions depot in Myla, on the outskirts of Kyiv, killed at least 38 people and triggered a large explosion. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said four people were still missing and that an investigation had been opened. Reuters also reported a fifth day of Russian drone attacks on Kyiv, with air raid sirens continuing to disrupt daily life for millions. In four days, Zelenskyy said, Russia launched nearly 1.500 drones at Ukraine.
