Russell wins Dutch GP sprint as Antonelli extends lead
The 5-point gain at Zandvoort leaves Antonelli 53 points ahead of Hamilton before Sunday’s main race.
George Russell won the 2026 Formula 1 Dutch GP sprint at Circuit Zandvoort on Saturday after leading all 24 laps from pole position. The Mercedes driver finished in 30 minutes 25,318 seconds, 1,360 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, while Lando Norris took McLaren to third. The fight for second changed on lap 18 when Leclerc passed Norris at Turn 1. Behind them, Norris finished just 0,385 seconds ahead of Kimi Antonelli, who placed fourth. The victory was Russell’s third sprint win of the season and lifted his total to 168 points. Even so, Antonelli remained atop the standings with 224 points, 53 points clear of Lewis Hamilton. Qualifying for the main race was held after the sprint, with the grand prix set for Sunday.
