Rupiah weakens 25 points Monday morning to Rp18.090 per dollar
Oil prices jumped after US-Iran attacks, pressuring the rupiah; analysts see it trading between Rp18.000 and Rp18.150.
The rupiah in Monday morning trading weakened 25 points, or 0.14 percent, to Rp18.090 per US dollar, from the previous close of Rp18.065 per US dollar. Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong said the pressure on the rupiah was driven by rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which pushed up global crude prices. Over the past few days, Iran and the United States have exchanged attacks. On Sunday, Iran struck US military sites in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and Oman. On Monday morning, the US again attacked several areas in southern Iran. IRIB reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Qeshm Island and Jask in Hormozgan Province, while Mehr reported explosions in Bushehr and Kangan. Lukman expects the rupiah to move in a range of Rp18.000 to Rp18.150 per US dollar.
